[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Dong-joo] On the 21st, Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, turned back at the entrance of the event venue while attempting to attend the "National Monk Rally for Eradicating Religious Bias and Buddhist Distortion and Protecting the Autonomy of Korean Buddhism" held in the front yard of the main hall of Jogyesa Temple in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Last year, during the national audit, Rep. Jeong referred to the "cultural heritage admission fee" at Haeinsa Temple as a "toll" and described the temples collecting it as "Bongyi Kim Seon-dal," which sparked strong backlash from the Buddhist community.
Additionally, Rep. Jeong has caused further controversy by revealing that he was asked to leave the party by a close aide of Lee Jae-myung.
