Does the 'Galaxy S22 Ultra' Support Macro Mode?

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] There are speculations that the flagship model of Samsung Electronics' upcoming Galaxy S22 series, expected to be released in February next year, the 'Ultra (Note)' model, may support a macro (close-up) shooting feature on its main camera.

On the 19th (local time), IT specialized media PhoneArena and others reported, citing famous IT tipster Ice Universe, that the S22 Ultra model's camera might support macro shot (close-up) functionality.

The camera specs of the S22 Ultra are not significantly different from its predecessor, the 'Galaxy S21 Ultra.' The rear of the S22 Ultra is expected to be equipped with a 108-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and two 10-megapixel telephoto cameras with 3x to 10x zoom capabilities. However, the image sensor will be upgraded. The Ultra is expected to feature the improved ISOCELL HM3, while the base and Plus models will likely have the ISOCELL GN5, both of which are new high-resolution sensors released this year.

Ice Universe stated, "The 108-megapixel camera of the S22 Ultra will offer an AI-based image quality enhancement mode," adding, "It will provide better detail, color, and brightness than before." He also mentioned that he has photographic evidence but cannot share samples at this time.

Additionally, a 'Detail Enhancer' feature is expected to be added, which enhances the detail of images captured using the 108-megapixel camera sensor. IT specialized media SamMobile reported, "It is still unclear how the image details will be enhanced, but if this feature is utilized, we can expect interesting macro shots." The Detail Enhancer feature is also expected to be supported on older models equipped with the 108-megapixel camera through future software updates.

Meanwhile, the S22 series is expected to be unveiled at a global unpacked event in February next year. The application processor (AP) is anticipated to be the latest Qualcomm 'Snapdragon 8 Gen 1' or Samsung's 'Exynos 2200,' depending on the release region.
