[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] A report has surfaced alleging that a cat living near an army base in Gangwon Province was brutally killed.
On the 8th, a post titled "Gangwon Province Division Soldier Cat Abandonment Incident" was uploaded on the Facebook page "Delivering Messages from the Army Training Center." The informant exposed that three cooks repeatedly committed cruel acts against cats near the kitchen area.
The informant stated, "About seven cats were living around the kitchen," and added, "The cooks took the kittens as a simple prank, subjected them to water torture until they died, and then made absurd claims like 'they were found dead the next day.' They said they would cremate them, but when the lighter did not burn the bodies, they buried the corpses."
They continued, "When one cat scratched a cook’s hand while being tied up, the cat was beaten with sticks by those nearby," and "Two other cooks said, 'Since the cat is suffering like this anyway, let's end its life,' and killed it by hitting its head twice with a stone."
The informant added, "I can only think that they are real psychopaths, and it is horrifying that they continue to cook food while laughing as if nothing happened. The more I think about it, the more terrible it is, and seeing their smiling faces is disgusting."
The informant also urged, "It has been about two weeks since the incident occurred, but no action has been taken. I ask for strong punishment to be enforced."
Meanwhile, the base stated, "We became aware of the matter around October and are currently investigating. In early November, all involved personnel were disciplined," and added, "The division is conducting further investigations, and based on the results, we will strictly handle the case according to relevant laws."
