[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A letter presumed to have been sent by former President Lee Myung-bak to a high school student while incarcerated has been revealed.


On the 8th, a post titled "Received a reply letter from former President Lee Myung-bak" was uploaded on an online community.


The author of the post, Mr. A, disclosed both the letter he sent to the former president and the reply letter he received from him.


In the letter sent to the former president, Mr. A wrote, "Setting aside political factors, I am your genuine fan."


He also wrote, "Although it is lacking, I dedicate this portrait drawn with a fountain pen to the best of my ability," and added, "I apologize for making such a request, but may I ask for a reply and your autograph?"


Eight days later, Mr. A received a reply presumed to be from the former president.


According to the letter disclosed by Mr. A, the former president wrote, "Seeing OO's sense of national security, I hope you achieve your dreams," and "I highly appreciate your strong sense of patriotism." He continued, "If you keep challenging yourself until the end and work diligently and steadily, you will achieve your goals. I will pray for you."


The former president also commented on the portrait Mr. A drew himself, saying, "Your drawing skills are not ordinary."


At the bottom of the letter, the date "2021.10.5." and the name "Lee Myung-bak" are written. Netizens are presuming this is a handwritten letter by the former president based on the handwriting.


Meanwhile, the former president is serving a 17-year prison sentence at Anyang Prison on charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
