Mutual Safety Assurance for Users and Operators of Personal Mobility Device Platforms like Electric Bicycles and Electric Kickboards
Any Startup Providing PM Sharing Services in Seoul Can Join Starting Next Month 1st
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Foundation announced on the 29th that they will launch a new 'Seoul PM Sharing Service Safety Insurance' to ensure the safety of both operators providing PM sharing services and users, targeting domestic and international tourists.
Seoul expects a rapid increase in the use of PM sharing services by domestic and international tourists as smart technology adoption accelerates in the tourism sector. To proactively respond, the city is launching a liability insurance product called 'Seoul PM Sharing Service Safety Insurance.'
The newly launched insurance will maintain the existing 'Safety Insurance for Foreign Group Tourists' product operated by the Seoul Tourism Foundation for inbound travel agencies based in Seoul, while expanding support to tourism startups providing PM sharing services in Seoul.
In particular, this insurance was launched through active cooperation among related organizations in the tourism sector to promote coexistence between tourism startups and the existing tourism industry, making it significant as both sides can benefit.
If a PM sharing service operator is enrolled in the 'Seoul PM Sharing Service Safety Insurance,' domestic and international tourists using the service can easily apply for insurance through the respective PM sharing service app and receive insurance services. To facilitate this, Seoul plans to support the development of IT systems applicable to PM sharing service apps.
Any PM sharing service startup based in Seoul can enroll through the Travel Insurance Center starting October 1st. For detailed information regarding enrollment, inquiries can be made via the website or by phone.
Choi Kyung-joo, Director of the Seoul Tourism and Sports Bureau, stated, “This insurance launch is a proactive initiative by the city to address the 'safety' issue, which has been pointed out as a major vulnerability of PM sharing services.” He added, “By supporting IT development so that both domestic and foreign tourists can apply for insurance directly through PM sharing service apps, we expect this to contribute to ensuring the safety of tourists visiting Seoul and enhancing Seoul’s image as a smart tourism city.”
