[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] "The Galaxy Note is over." As the stylus pen, commonly known as the 'S Pen,' which was a hallmark of the Galaxy Note series, has been consecutively applied to the Galaxy S series, rumors about the discontinuation of the Note line are surfacing again.

On the 22nd (local time), IT specialist media GSM Arena reported, citing famous IT tipster Ice Universe, that the 'Galaxy S22 Ultra' model will feature a built-in S Pen.

According to Ice Universe, the S22 Ultra model is expected to have a dedicated S Pen slot. Previously, the first non-Note model to support the S Pen was the 'Galaxy S21 Ultra,' and the recently released 'Galaxy Z Fold3' also allowed the use of the S Pen, but since the S Pen was not built-in, users had to use a dedicated case to store the S Pen, which was considered inconvenient.

The S22 Ultra model is expected to undergo slight design modifications to accommodate the built-in S Pen. The display ratio will likely be changed to 19.3:9, the same as the 'Galaxy Note20 Ultra,' to secure space for the S Pen. The previous S21 series all had a screen ratio of 20:9.

Since its launch, the Galaxy Note has been a flagship product for Samsung Electronics, with cumulative sales of around 10 million units per series. However, due to the global semiconductor chip shortage and the strengthening of the foldable lineup this year, new product releases have been halted. The market has even speculated about the discontinuation of the Note series. Ice Universe also tweeted, "The Galaxy Note is over but not finished. The S series will become the Note."

However, Samsung Electronics has repeatedly denied the discontinuation rumors. At the shareholders' meeting in March, Koh Dong-jin, President of Samsung Electronics' IM Division, said, "Releasing two flagship models with S Pen support in one year can be quite burdensome," but added, "The business division is preparing to release a Note category product next year," dismissing the discontinuation rumors. Last month, in an article published on Samsung Newsroom ahead of the second half unpacked event, Samsung Electronics' Wireless Business Division head, Roh Tae-moon, mentioned the Galaxy Note, stating, "Although the Galaxy Note series is not introduced this time, the Note experience continues to expand across various Galaxy devices, preparing for a bright future."
