[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Nongshim celebrated the 35th anniversary of Shin Ramyun by introducing ‘Shin Ramyun Bokkeummyeon,’ a stir-fried noodle reinterpretation of the spicy flavor beloved by Koreans.
In developing Shin Ramyun Bokkeummyeon, Nongshim focused on creating a spicy taste that anyone can enjoy rather than an overly intense spiciness. In addition to chili peppers, other ingredients such as black pepper were used to achieve a delicious spicy flavor, and seasoned oil made from green onions and chili peppers was added to enhance the unique savory spiciness of stir-fried noodles.
The noodles were made thin and chewy to suit stir-fried noodles well. The cooking time was significantly reduced compared to existing products, with 2 minutes for the packet noodles and 3 minutes for the large bowl noodles.
The toppings feature a red fish cake embossed with the character ‘신 (辛),’ which stands out visually. Nongshim developed this new type of fish cake to add visual enjoyment for consumers. Additionally, bok choy and shiitake mushrooms were added more generously than in the original Shin Ramyun to enhance the texture.
Now 35 years old, Shin Ramyun has surpassed cumulative sales of 14.8 trillion won domestically and internationally as of the first half of this year, with sales volume reaching 34.6 billion units. Nongshim expects Shin Ramyun to achieve cumulative sales of 15 trillion won and sales volume of 35 billion units within this year. Moving forward, Nongshim plans to focus on ‘sharing emotional value with consumers’ and will put more effort into strengthening Shin Ramyun’s friendly brand image.
