Kia Launches New Compact SUV 'New Sportage' with Starting Price of 24.42 Million KRW

Kia will launch the new Sportage, a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) equipped with dynamic design and a differentiated vehicle experience, on the 20th.

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Kia announced on the 20th that it will launch the new Sportage, a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) equipped with dynamic design and a differentiated vehicle experience.

The new Sportage recorded 16,078 pre-orders on the first day of pre-contracts starting on the 6th, and the total number of pre-orders reached 22,195 as of the previous day.

The new Sportage features an advanced design compared to its predecessor, interior space that surpasses its class, and a new powertrain. The front of the vehicle is equipped with a tiger nose large radiator grille featuring a black high-tech pattern, while the sides add a sporty body silhouette and three-dimensional volume. The rear is equipped with a horizontally connected garnish and sleek rear lamps.

Inside, the new Sportage is the first domestic compact SUV to apply a curved display that smoothly connects a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system screen. It also features a touch-type switching control panel that allows integrated operation of the infotainment system and air conditioning functions.

The new Sportage offers three powertrains: a 1.6 turbo hybrid, a 1.6 turbo gasoline, and a 2.0 diesel. The Sportage Hybrid (2WD with 17-inch tires) combines a Smartstream turbo hybrid engine with a maximum output of 180ps and maximum torque of 27.0 kgf·m with a drive motor to deliver a system maximum output of 230ps and system maximum torque of 35.7 kgf·m, achieving a combined fuel efficiency of 16.7 km/ℓ. The 1.6 turbo gasoline engine produces a maximum output of 180ps, maximum torque of 27.0 kgf·m, and combined fuel efficiency of 12.5 km/ℓ, while the 2.0 diesel engine delivers a maximum output of 186ps, maximum torque of 42.5 kgf·m, and combined fuel efficiency of 14.6 km/ℓ.

Kia has equipped the hybrid model with E-Ride and E-Handling technologies as standard to provide better driving performance and ride comfort. The diesel model features Terrain Mode with an auto function, applied for the first time by a domestic brand, which offers mud, snow, and sand modes and integrates control of the four-wheel drive, engine, transmission, and braking system according to terrain conditions to provide a stable driving experience.

The new Sportage is equipped with various advanced driver assistance systems and infotainment features for passenger safety and convenience.

Advanced driver assistance systems include Front Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), Safe Exit Warning (SEW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), High Beam Assist (HBA), Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Surround View Monitor (SVM), and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), enhancing driving convenience and safety.

Additionally, advanced connectivity and convenience features such as Digital Key, Kia Pay, Car-to-Home, Personalized Profile, Built-in Cam, and Rear Occupant Alert are also applied.

A Kia official stated, "Through the Sportage, which has significantly enhanced product competitiveness in all aspects including interior space that surpasses its class and best-in-class new technologies, we will provide customers with an innovative and differentiated vehicle experience unique to Kia."

The selling price of the new Sportage is as follows: for the 1.6 turbo hybrid (after eco-friendly vehicle tax benefits), Prestige is 31.09 million KRW, Noblesse is 32.69 million KRW, and Signature is 35.93 million KRW. For the 1.6 turbo gasoline (based on 3.5% individual consumption tax), Trendy is 24.42 million KRW, Prestige is 26.24 million KRW, Noblesse is 28.69 million KRW, and Signature is 31.93 million KRW. For the 2.0 diesel, Trendy is 26.34 million KRW, Prestige is 28.15 million KRW, Noblesse is 30.61 million KRW, and Signature is 33.85 million KRW.
