Semiconductor Research Development Fund Agreement Jung Chang-sun, Chairman of Joongheung Group (right), and Lee Kwang-hyung, President of KAIST, are posing for a commemorative photo at the "Pyeongtaek Brain City Semiconductor Research Center Development Fund Donation Agreement Ceremony" held on the 19th at the John Hanner Hall in the Academic and Cultural Center of KAIST, Daejeon.

Jung Chang-sun, Chairman of the Junghung Group, visited KAIST in Daejeon on the 19th and donated 30 billion KRW as a development fund for the Pyeongtaek Brain City Semiconductor Research Center, urging it to become a cradle for nurturing semiconductor talent that will determine the nation's future competitiveness.

The Junghung Group will donate in kind by constructing an educational research building worth approximately 20 billion KRW within Brain City and generously contributed 10 billion KRW in cash to KAIST to support talent development programs.

Chairman Jung said, "In an era of technological hegemony, to compete globally and stay ahead, we must cultivate science and technology talent. I am confident that if we broadly support young scientists to have unlimited research opportunities, they will grow into talents capable of supporting tens of thousands of people."

KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung responded, "This is a bold investment to nurture semiconductor talent that will be the driving force of the nation's growth and a beacon of hope for South Korea's future. We will strive to cultivate the world's best talents to meet the donor's expectations."

Meanwhile, KAIST is promoting the establishment of the 'KAIST Semiconductor Research Center' on its campus site within Brain City, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province. On the 14th, a tripartite business agreement was signed with Samsung Electronics and Pyeongtaek City to cultivate specialized semiconductor personnel through cooperation among industry, academia, and local governments.

The Junghung Group's development fund signing ceremony was held at 11:40 a.m. on the same day at the John Haner Hall in the KAIST Academic and Cultural Center. Considering the recent severe spread of COVID-19, only key figures including Jung Chang-sun, Chairman of Junghung Group, Jung Jang-sun, Mayor of Pyeongtaek, and Lee Kwang-hyung, President of KAIST, attended the event.
