[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A woman in her 30s who drove a Mercedes-Benz vehicle while heavily intoxicated late at night and fatally struck a man in his 60s working at a construction site has been handed over to the prosecution.

On the 31st, according to the police, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul sent Kwon Mo (30), who is accused of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (dangerous driving causing death), to the prosecution.

Kwon is suspected of hitting and killing A (61), who was dismantling a concrete soundproof wall on Line 2 in front of an LPG charging station in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, around 2 a.m. on the 24th. The Mercedes-Benz vehicle collided repeatedly with crane supports and then caught fire, burning completely. Kwon’s blood alcohol concentration was found to be at the level warranting license cancellation.

On the same day, a post titled "I am a bereaved family member of the victim in the early morning drunk driving fatal accident at Ttukseom Station caused by a heavily intoxicated 30s Mercedes-Benz driver" was uploaded on the Blue House National Petition Board, urging strict punishment for the drunk driving offender.

The petitioner wrote, "My father’s body was severely damaged in the accident to the point that his face was barely recognizable, and we had to send him off without even being able to dress him in a burial garment," adding, "I sincerely hope that accidents causing families like ours to lose loved ones in an instant due to drunk driving will decrease."
