[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] A controversy has arisen after a Chinese girl experienced severe hair loss to the point of a bald crown just 10 days after bringing home a cat. It is reported that the hair loss was caused by an infection from bacteria transmitted by the cat.

On the 14th, according to Tencent and others, A (10), a girl living in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, adopted a cat on May Day, May 1st.

Shortly after, A’s hair began to fall out, and hair loss severely progressed on the crown area. Concerned, A’s mother took her to the hospital after noticing the hair loss symptoms.

However, the hospital diagnosed that A was infected by bacteria transmitted from the cat. The hospital also advised A that "the hair around the infected area must be completely shaved in order to apply the medicine." Following the hospital’s advice, A shaved all the hair around the infected area and proceeded with treatment.

Chinese netizens who heard this news responded with comments such as, "What should be done? She is still so young, it breaks my heart," "I hope the girl recovers quickly," and "I hope she doesn’t hate the cat too much because of this."

Meanwhile, the local hospital stated, "As the cat moves around indoors and has skin contact with its owner, fur and dandruff fall off and spread bacteria throughout the house, which can infect people," adding, "If medicine is applied promptly and immunity is strengthened, a full recovery is possible."
