[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City has developed a new character symbolizing the region called ‘Young Sejong Chungnyeong’ to be used in various promotional activities.
According to the city on the 15th, ‘Young Sejong Chungnyeong’ carries the meaning of a young city Sejong growing toward the future, inheriting the name and spirit of King Sejong the Great.
The city developed the character in various designs so that ‘Young Sejong Chungnyeong’ can be applied both in traditional media such as printed materials and online media including social networks (SNS).
Additionally, a name lettering design fitting the character image was also developed and applied.
When Sejong was launched in 2012, the character ‘New Light, New Day’ was established and used until recently. However, as citizens’ opinions continued to report that the design’s completeness and usability were lacking, the city has been promoting the development of a new character since 2019. This is the background for the emergence of Young Sejong Chungnyeong.
In particular, Young Sejong Chungnyeong was developed inspired by the virtuous king ‘King Sejong the Great,’ reflecting public opinion and expert views that the character should intuitively symbolize Sejong and have dignity as a character, according to the city’s explanation.
The ‘Young Sejong Chungnyeong’ character and its applied designs can be viewed on the city hall website.
Kim Byung-ho, the city spokesperson, said, “The new character symbolizing Sejong, ‘Young Sejong Chungnyeong,’ is expected to have high versatility and usability by combining the familiar image and story of King Sejong the Great for citizens,” adding, “The city will continue efforts to utilize Young Sejong Chungnyeong as a friendly communication channel connecting the city and local citizens.”
