[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 21st that the Hanam Line, an extension project of Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 5 connecting Sangil-dong Station in Seoul and Geomdansan Station in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, will be fully opened on the 27th.

The Hanam Line is a route with a total length of 7.7 km, connecting Seoul's Sangil-dong Station, the current terminus of Subway Line 5, to Gangil Station, Misa Station, Hanam Pungsan Station, Hanam City Hall Station, and finally Hanam Geomdansan Station in Changwoo-dong, Hanam City.

Following the opening of the first phase on August last year, covering the 4.7 km section between Sangil-dong Station, Misa Station, and Hanam Pungsan Station, the remaining 3 km and 3 stations have now been completed, resulting in the full opening of the Hanam Line.

The Hanam Line construction began in August 2014 and was carried out over 6 years and 7 months, with a total project cost of 981 billion KRW.

With the full opening of the Hanam Line, travel from Hanam City (Hanam City Hall Station) to Jamsil Station now takes 30 minutes, and to Gangnam Station within 50 minutes.

The operating hours of the Hanam Line, based on Hanam Geomdansan Station, are from 5:30 AM (departure) on weekdays to 12:06 AM (arrival) the following day, and the trains will be 8-car electric trains, the same as the existing Line 5.

The fare is the same as the existing subway system: when using a transportation card, the basic fare is 1,250 KRW for adults, 720 KRW for teenagers, and 450 KRW for children.

Lee Yoonsang, Director of the Metropolitan Transportation Operation Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Wide Transportation Committee, said, "With the opening of all sections of the Hanam Line, fast, convenient, and eco-friendly rail services will be provided in the eastern metropolitan area," adding, "We expect it to also contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
