Pornographic Video Uploaded in the Group Chat of Assemblyman Maeng Seong-gyu's Office of the Democratic Party of Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] A controversy has arisen after a pornographic video was posted in a KakaoTalk group chat room (group chat) established by the office of Maeng Seong-gyu (Incheon Namdong-gap), a member of the Democratic Party of Korea.
According to Maeng Seong-gyu's office on the 19th, at around 12:38 PM on the 1st, a local delegate A posted a 25-minute pornographic video in the group chat room for supporters of the lawmaker. The office immediately recognized that a pornographic video had been posted in the group chat and protested to A, demanding the deletion of the post.
In an interview with a media outlet, A explained, "It seems my account was hacked without my knowledge, and the video was posted." Furthermore, A failed to delete the video within the 5-minute window allowed for self-deletion of KakaoTalk messages.
Obscene video posted in the group chat of Representative Maeng Seong-gyu of the Democratic Party of Korea.
The lawmaker's office requested all 100 participants in the group chat to leave and join a newly created open chat room.
To prevent recurrence of similar incidents, Maeng Seong-gyu's office established an open chat room with features such as forced member removal and post hiding, instead of the previous group chat method.
The office stated, "We are establishing measures to prevent recurrence. We plan to operate using an open KakaoTalk chat room rather than a general KakaoTalk room," adding, "In the open KakaoTalk room, administrators can forcibly remove participants and delete posts."
