[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] In a Thai household, 5-year-old twin siblings held a wedding ceremony arranged by their parents.

According to the Daily Mail on the 6th, a Thai couple arranged the marriage of their twin siblings following Buddhist teachings.

On the 4th, a wedding ceremony was held at a home in Nikhom Si Thammarat Province for the 5-year-old twins, Wachirawit B. Mushika and Linlada Brim Mushika.

The ceremony was conducted in the traditional wedding style, attended by close neighbors and relatives.

The twins became a married couple after receiving blessings from a monk. After the ceremony, the twins, their parents, and guests danced together and enjoyed the celebration.

The father, Wirasak (31), explained the reason for marrying the siblings: "Although it is a superstitious belief, it was an unavoidable choice because one of them might fall ill."

Wirasak said, "They are born as twins in this life to fulfill the love that was unfinished in their past lives. If a wedding is not held when dizygotic twins are born, one of them might become sick later."

He added, "We are only concerned for the children's safety. We hope they do not get sick. There is nothing to lose by acting according to our faith."

The mother, Rewadi (30), also stated, "Having twin siblings was a blessing, but I was worried about the karma from past lives. We married the siblings to cleanse that karma."

Local Buddhists believe that twin siblings are born together to repay 'karma,' the debts of past lives. They are reincarnated as twins to complete the unfinished bonds from their previous lives.

In 2018, a wedding ceremony for 6-year-old twin siblings was also held in Samut Prakan, Thailand. At that time, the parents of the twins said, "The marriage must be held as soon as possible to prevent the siblings from experiencing misfortune."

However, the twins' marriage has no legal effect. They may meet their own spouses and marry after reaching adulthood.
