Pelvis, urinary tract, reproductive organs, and tail each in pairs
Healthy with good eating, running, and bowel movements
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A dog with six legs was miraculously born in the United States.
According to major foreign media on the 23rd (local time), nine puppies were born on the 16th in Oklahoma from a Border Collie and an Australian Shepherd.
According to reports, among them, a puppy named 'Skipper' was born with six legs, three on the top and three on the bottom.
Ultrasound examination showed that Skipper had one head and one chest each, but two pelvises, urinary tracts, reproductive organs, and tails each.
Currently, Skipper, who is seven days old, is healthy like the other puppies, eating, drinking, relieving himself, and running around.
Tina Neill, the veterinarian at the animal hospital where Skipper was born, explained the reason for being born with a disability, saying, "It seems that the fertilized egg did not completely separate when it differentiated into twins."
The veterinarian said, "Skipper also shows signs of a rare disease called spina bifida," adding, "It is a miracle that he has survived longer than expected."
Spina bifida is a congenital malformation in which the fusion of the vertebrae is incomplete, causing the spinal cord and nerves that control the muscles and sensation of the lower body to not develop normally.
There have been puppies born with six legs before, but Skipper is reported to be the first to survive like this.
Skipper, whose health has been confirmed, has been discharged and is living at home with his family.
The veterinarian said, "We will continue to study Skipper's condition and monitor his growth," and added, "We will help him live comfortably without pain."
