[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Marriott International announced on the 8th that it will open its first Marriott-branded hotel in the Daegu area, the 'Daegu Marriott,' on the 9th.
As a brand named after its founder, Marriott is the most iconic and globally recognized brand among Marriott International's 30 brands. It currently operates over 580 hotels worldwide and plans to open an additional 160 hotels within the next 3 to 4 years. In Korea, the first hotel was introduced in 2017 at Jeju Shinhwa World.
The Daegu Marriott is the first hotel that Marriott International, which currently operates 27 hotels domestically, is launching in Daegu. As the only full-service 5-star hotel in the region, it will showcase advanced services and design befitting a global chain hotel. The 23-story hotel offers a total of 190 rooms from the 3rd to the 11th floors, including 24 club rooms and 11 suites, while residential-style residences are located from the 12th to the 23rd floors.
The hotel provides a high-quality culinary experience using specialties from the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions. It features the buffet restaurant 'Urban Kitchen,' where guests can enjoy a variety of domestic and international cuisines, and 'East Gate,' led by a chef formerly of 'Yooan,' a Michelin 1-star Chinese restaurant at Four Seasons Seoul. There is also a grand ballroom that can accommodate up to 190 people and four small banquet halls, allowing for various sizes of business and family events. Additionally, the hotel is equipped with an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center with the latest equipment, sauna, and spa facilities.
Located in Sincheon-dong, Dong-gu, the hotel is situated in a transportation hub with a complex transfer center connecting KTX, express and intercity buses, and the subway. The area has become more vibrant since the opening of Shinsegae Department Store in 2016. It is a 5-minute walk from KTX Dongdaegu Station, making it an optimal location for business and leisure travelers in the southeastern region.
Rajiv Menon, President of Marriott International Asia Pacific (excluding Greater China), said, "We are pleased to introduce the second Marriott hotel in Korea, following Jeju, and the first in the Daegu area, a continuously growing market."
