[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] On the first day of the new year, an unexplained fire broke out at the College of Engineering of Inha University.
According to the Incheon Fire Headquarters and Michuhol Police Station on the 1st, a fire started at around 12:02 a.m. in a laboratory on the 4th floor of Building 4 at Inha University in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, and was extinguished after 2 hours and 27 minutes. When the fire broke out, black smoke rose high along with flames, and about 15 reports were made to the fire authorities.
There were no casualties from the fire, but property damage occurred, including the burning of 985.12㎡ of the school building.
The fire authorities who responded to the report mobilized about 170 firefighters and 38 pieces of equipment, including pump trucks, to extinguish the fire.
Meanwhile, a police official said, "Through closed-circuit (CCTV) footage, we confirmed students leaving the laboratory after finishing experiments before the fire broke out," adding, "Based on students' testimonies and forensic results, we are investigating the exact cause of the fire, including the connection between the experiments conducted that day and the fire."
