[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Combined Heat and Power Association announced on the 3rd that it held an extraordinary general meeting on the 30th of last month and elected Bang Sunja, former Director of the Strategic Materials Management Institute, as the new association president.
She was unanimously elected in the general meeting conducted by written resolution due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
New President Bang stated that her top priority will be to address the inequality faced by industrial complex sector operators in the third allocation plan of the greenhouse gas emissions trading system.
She also said she will play a midwife role to ensure that industrial complex district energy operators can contribute in line with the government's policy to expand distributed energy supply.
Although industrial complex district energy operators are classified under the industrial sector in the government's greenhouse gas reduction roadmap industry classification, they were separated into a distinct sector during the second plan period of the emissions trading system.
Because of this, operators have been suffering as they were assigned a reduction rate more than 10% higher than the general industrial sector.
It is known that in the upcoming third plan period allocation plan, the government is considering integrated management under the transition sector rather than integrated management under the industrial sector, deepening the concerns of the operators.
