[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is conducting the ‘Walking Alone Along the Hongjecheon Smart Dulle-gil’ challenge to help residents who lack physical activity due to COVID-19 maintain their health while practicing social distancing in daily life.

The route is a 5.5 km walking trail from Gajwa Station along Hongjecheon, passing Sacheon Bridge, Waterfall Square, Yujin Shopping Center, Pobangteo Market, and ending at Okcheonam, which takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk.

The challenge is divided into two phases: Phase 1 (May 11?17) and Phase 2 (May 18?24), lasting for two weeks.

Those interested can participate by installing the ‘Walk On’ application on their smartphones and selecting ‘Seodaemun-gu Walking Alone.’

If participants walk more than 90% of the designated course, they achieve the goal and the first 100 people in each phase will receive a souvenir (sports bag) exchange coupon.

Previously, Seodaemun-gu established the nation’s first IoT (Internet of Things)-based ‘Smart Dulle-gil’ in 2017, guiding major walking spots such as Ansan, Hongjecheon, and Bukhansan through the Walk On app.

By using this, users can check their step count and calories burned, and through the ‘Online Stamp Tour,’ they can also receive free admission tickets to the Seodaemun Natural History Museum and Seodaemun Prison History Hall.

Lee Jun-young, director of the Seodaemun-gu Health Center, stated, “Since a rapid decrease in physical activity may increase the risk of chronic diseases, we will promote various campaigns that allow people to manage their health while practicing social distancing in daily life, such as this walking challenge.”
