[Summary] Heo Gyu Apologizes for Statement "More Pro-Japanese Collaborators in the Democratic Party" Singer and musical actor Heo Gyu / Photo by Heo Gyu Instagram

[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] Singer and musical actor Heo Gyu apologized for his political remarks.

On the 15th, Heo Gyu posted on his Facebook, "Please eradicate communism. I hate the Communist Party." In response, a netizen commented, "I hate pro-Japanese collaborators more than communists," to which Heo Gyu replied, "Try being hurt by communists. Go live in North Korea if you want."

He continued, "I've been hurt a lot. While my blood boils against pro-Japanese collaborators, communism is ongoing, so we must stop it first. Pro-Japanese collaborators should be dealt with over time," adding, "They are busy enriching themselves, so clearing out deep-rooted evils is nonsense. No matter who does it, it won't happen. The priority is to prevent things from getting worse."

He also added, "And there are more pro-Japanese collaborators in the Democratic Party."

Due to the controversy sparked by these political remarks made on the day of the 21st National Assembly election (general election), and the emerging boycott movement against the musical "Again, Oh Hae-young," in which he is currently performing, Heo Gyu deleted all related posts.

He then posted a handwritten apology on his Instagram, saying, "I am sorry. I was very foolish."

In the released apology letter, he said, "I am deeply sorry for making inappropriate remarks that upset many people," and "I sincerely apologize once again for my thoughtlessness regarding sensitive matters."

He added, "I will deeply reflect and keep a low profile. I will act more cautiously in the future."
